Dr Dax Basdeo oversees the strategy, operations and administration of the Cayman Islands Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce.

Entities under his leadership include the Department for International Tax Cooperation; General Registry; the Department of Commerce and Investment; the National Maritime Affairs Secretariat; and the Cayman Islands Intellectual Property Office.

The Ministry also has responsibility for the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority; Auditors Oversight Authority; Cayman Islands Stock Exchange; Trade and Business Licensing Board; Liquor Licensing Board; Special Economic Zones Authority; Civil Aviation Authority; Air Transport and Licensing Authority; Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands; Cayman Islands Government Office in North America; and the Cayman Islands Government Office in Asia.

Dr Basdeo’s background is in economics, finance, statistics and strategic management. He holds degrees from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Manchester, and the University of Maryland.
